Background For the last decades, surgical progress lead to better functional outcomes in patients with congenital heart defect (CHD), which may also affect lung function. Reduced volumes were found about half all a CHD. Purpose This prospective study investigated function spirometry and body plethysmography children Data reported FVC, FEV1, its ratio (spirometry), together total capacity (TLC), residual volume, presented as TLC (RV/TLC) from plethysmography. Methods From April 2018 October 2022 fifty-eight young (14.0 ± 2.5 years, 16 girls) CHD participated study. Their results are z-scores, sticking latest Global Lung Initiative reference values (2021). Values z-scores <-1.645 normal FEV1/FVC-z>-1.645, reduced (z<-1.645) represent restrictive pattern. A FVC-z<-1.645, an increased RV/TLC-z>1,645 non-specific FEV1/FVC-z obstructive pattern that can be approved RV/TLC. Results FVC-z -1.0 1.3, FEV1-z 1.2, 0.0 1.0. TLC-z was -0.4 1.1 RV/TLC-z reached 0.7 0.7. Sixty-seven percent had results. However, 33% FVC spirometry. Only three showed decreased FEV1/FVC ratio. only five show restriction (TLC<-1,645), representing 9% patients. Conclusions Still, one-third striking volumes. Although studies suggest nowadays patients, children’s should tested regularly disease. Since is trainable, these might benefit early diagnosis.
